Programme Structure

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Matric with Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy), Physical Science, and English (minimum 40% pass), or
  • N2 or higher with all subjects as per the specific discipline requirements, or
  • NCV Level 4 in the appropriate trade with all subjects passed with a minimum 40% pass


Trade Test Requirements

  • Minimum of N2 certificate with applicable subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • Engineering Science
    • Relevant Trade Theory
    • Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings or Plating Structural Drawings
  • NCV Level 4 in the appropriate trade with all subjects passed with a minimum 40% pass

SAPS & DCS Learnerships 2025–2026



Opportunities in Law Enforcement and Correctional Services

South African Police Service (SAPS) Basic Police Development Learning Programme

The SAPS Basic Police Development Learning Programme is a 24-month training initiative designed to equip recruits with the necessary skills and knowledge to serve as police officers. The programme combines theoretical training at SAPS academies with practical experience at police stations.

Location:

Nationwide (All Provinces)

Duration:

24 months (10 months at the Police Academy and 12 months in the workplace)

Duties:

  • Maintain law and order
  • Prevent and investigate crimes
  • Protect citizens and property
  • Enforce traffic regulations
  • Provide assistance during emergencies


Requirements:

  • South African citizenship
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • No criminal record
  • Medically and physically fit
