The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary scheme funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training. Who Qualifies for NSFAS Funding?

To qualify for NSFAS bursary funding, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• South African citizen or permanent resident.
• SASSA grant recipients automatically qualify for financial approval.
• Combined household income of not more than R350,000 per annum.
• For persons living with disabilities, the combined household income must not exceed R600,000 per annum.
• Students who have registered or intend to register at a public university or TVET college in South Africa.

Required Supporting Documents

Ensure clear digital copies (PDF or JPG) of the following documents are prepared before starting your application:

• Copy of your South African ID or Smart Card (both sides).
• Copy of parent(s), guardian(s), or spouse's South African ID.
• Proof of income for parents or legal guardians (payslips, bank statements, or affidavit if unemployed).
• Completed and signed Consent Form (downloadable on the myNSFAS portal).
• Disability Annexure A Form (if applicable).

How to Apply via myNSFAS Portal

Follow these steps to submit your online application:

1. Visit the official myNSFAS portal at www.nsfas.org.za.
2. Click on the 'myNSFAS' tab and select 'Create Account'.
3. Fill in your personal details, ID number, mobile phone number, and email address.
4. Upload a copy of your ID and create a secure password.
5. Log in using your credentials and click on the 'Apply' tab.
6. Complete all required educational and financial background information.
7. Upload all required supporting documents and click 'Submit'.
